JUBILEE CULTURAL EVENT AT DON BOSCO HSS, PANJIM

An air of nostalgia and festivity rang around the campus as Don Bosco Higher Secondary School Panjim celebrated ‘Silver Memories, Golden Dreams’ – its Jubilee Cultural Day on 23 November, 2018 to mark the Silver Jubilee of the institution. Shri Shripad Naik, Honorable Minister of State for AYUSH, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Among the dignitaries present were Guest of Honour Mr. Nicholas Fernandes, Provincial Fr. Felix Fernandes, Rector Fr. Avin Carvalho, Principal Fr. Savio Gomes, Former Principal Fr. Paul D’Souza, Mrs. Sintia Costa Fernandes Vice President of the PTA, retired teachers of the institution, and the executive members of the PTA.

The gathering was welcomed with a breath-taking fusion dance showcasing the diverse folk dances of India, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp by the dignitaries. The Principal, Fr. Savio Gomes, then, welcomed the gathering.

The highlight of the evening was the release of the Jubilee Special Philatelic Cover at the hands of the Chief Guest in the presence of Shri A. Koragappa, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Goa Division. Mr. Yeshwant Gaunkar and Mr. Nilesh Pai coordinated the momentous ceremony.

Students, alumni and parents put up a variety entertainment performance marvellously portraying the underlying theme of national integration. A musical item ‘It Weighs a Ton’ touched hearts with its message of unity in diversity, while an original play ‘Revisiting Swaraj – A tribute to the Mahatma’ exhorted modern society to turn to peace and harmony, thus paying fitting homage to the Father of the Nation on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The presentation of the Jubilee Cultural Report exemplified the multi-faceted progress achieved by the institution in academics, co-curricular activities and sports.

Music lovers in the audience were entertained throughout the programme. The student orchestra conducted by young maestro Samuel Fernandes delivered melodious renditions of Habanera, I will Follow Him and Taka Takata. The Past Pupils’ Band drew loud cheers from the crowd, while the parents led the audience down memory lane with a nostalgic Goan presentation, encompassing traditional music and dance.

Acknowledging the dedicated service rendered by the institution in the field of education, the Chief Guest Shri Shripad Naik congratulated the management on the well-organised silver jubilee programme. The memorable evening concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Josefa Pinto. The programme was anchored by Joana Souza Lobo and Andrew de Sousa.
